The Forget Me Now

JUMP TO:

Intro

This is a custom cocktail requested by a group of friends I call The Forgetting Team — called as such because in business school (where we met), you’re divided into clusters and then smaller groups called Learning Teams, with which you do a series of projects with in your first semester. This friend group did a lot more partying than learning so as a joke we started calling ourselves The Forgetting Team.

That inside joke, paired with an inside joke from Arrested Development (one of our fav shows), led to the combined cocktail name of The Forget Me Now. In case you’re unfamiliar with the show Arrested Development, one of the characters, GOB (pronounced JĹŤb) often makes “huge mistakes” and either takes (or force feeds others) what he calls “Forget-me-now” pills...something that’s almost obviously roofies lol.  Let me clarify that he never makes others take it so he can be weird with their unconscious bodies because obviously I don’t condone that, but rather, to cover up some really really dumb things that he’s done.

Anyways this drink is a slightly herbaceous take on a classic Whiskey Sour.  It’s a nice and balanced blend of fresh blood orange juice, some lemon to give it the tartness of a classic Sour, rosemary aromatics, a tinge of honey for sweetness, all balanced with a nice texture from the egg white.  There are no bitters for this variation since there’s a smidge of peated Scotch to add some of that complexity, plus the rosemary sprig adds some nice aromatics!

Like all the custom cocktails I make for friends, I make an accompanying recipe card you can quickly reference. If you’d like me to make you a custom cocktail, drop me a note and let’s collaborate!

IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ:

  • I use organic and pasteurized eggs since you are consuming raw egg white

  • I’d recommend using a Boston shaker and large 1½â€ť - 2” ice cubes for the wet shake so it doesn’t dilute the drink too much while shaking

  • Since there is no ice in this finished drink, chilling your glassware is highly recommended

  • Save your egg yolk for omelettes, to use as an egg wash for pastries, carbonara, or cure them in coarse Kosher salt!

For each cocktail:

  • 1 lightly muddled rosemary sprig

  • 2 oz bourbon (I like Bulleit bourbon for cocktails)

  • ½ oz peated Scotch (I always have a bottle of Laphroaig on hand so I used that!)

  • 3 oz fresh blood orange juice

  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice

  • Bar spoon of honey

  • ¾ oz egg white*

  • Garnish: fresh rosemary sprig inserted into glass like a straw

*  My average amount from a Large egg

For each cocktail:

  1. Remove the needles from a whole, fresh rosemary sprig and add them to a cocktail shaker and LIGHTLY muddle until fragrant

  2. To the shaker, add the bourbon, peated Scotch, blood orange juice, lemon juice, honey, and egg white and do your first shake — the dry shake

  3. Add a large ice CUBE (1½ - 2 inches) into your shaker, close it, and gently shake to chill the shaker and the cocktail mixture; once the shaker is noticeably cold to the touch, tighten the seal and do your last shake — a vigorous wet shake

  4. Double strain into a double rocks glass and garnish with the other half of the fresh rosemary sprig (inserted like a straw)

The rosemary garnish adds nice and herbaceous aromatics to balance out the cocktail!
